Engineering materials in the nanoscale has opened up a wealth of novel phenomena which are not accessible to naturally occurring materials, bringing exciting developments with applications in many different technologies. Within nanoscience, my current research interests are centered around light-matter interaction, particularly in plasmonic systems. The coherent excitation of charge carriers in nanostructured materials is a resonant process that strongly couples with light at frequencies that depend on the geometric properties of the system, allowing for a large degree of spectral tunability. In particular, I use theoretical and computational models to study the usage of plasmonic nanostructures in solar energy harvesting, photodetection, biosensing and nanoscale energy transfer and heat generation, as well as to study fundamental physical properties of these systems.
