Colloidal quantum dots (QDs) have been widely studied as promising building blocks for applications in emerging technologies such as photovoltaics, solar-driven photoelectrochemical (PEC) hydrogen production, light emitting devices, photodetectors, light emission displays and luminescent solar concentrators, due to their size/composition tunable band gaps, broad absorption spectra, multiple exciton generation and high extinction coefficients. Among various potential applications in solar technologies, solar driven PEC cells and QDs sensitized solar cells (QDSSCs) constitute the most promising cost-effective and easy fabrication candidates for renewable and clean energy production. The main challenges for improving the performance of PEC cells and QDSSCs are the light harvesting range of QDs sensitizers and charge separation/transport efficiency, which are largely influenced by the material’s band structure.

My research project will focus on size and band structure tunable QDs synthesize and evaluate their application in solar cells and QDs-based PEC hydrogen production.
