Finding a viable way to tap solar energy, the most abundant and universally available source of renewable energy, is urgently needed. Therefore, converting solar energy into other easily usable forms has attracted considerable interest in the last several decades. Storing solar energy by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen has long been considered a promising idea. However, the conversion efficiency today remains unsatisfactory.

My main research focuses on developing efficient PEC cells which could provide rapid charge transfer at the electrode/electrolyte interface, long-term stability and efficient harvesting of a wide range of the solar spectrum, and that are low-cost and non-toxic as well.
