I explore the following research themes, using a combination of experimental techniques including scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), x-ray photoemission electron microscopy (X-PEEM), x-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS) and x-ray diffraction (XRD), both in the lab and at synchrotron radiation facilities (ELETTRA, in Trieste, Italy and the Canadian Light Source, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan).

    • Symmetry and polymorphism in molecular networks
    • Donor/acceptor networks for photovoltaic applications
    • Kinetics and self-healing
  2. Semiconductor heteroepitaxy:
    • Strain effects and the morphology of Ge islands on Si(111)
  3. Metallic catalysts
    • Model metal-on-single-crystal systems
    • Temperature-induced structural transitions in metallic nanoparticles
