Functional Materials for Electronics and Photonics

nwBFCOsquaresNanostructured materials offer new and remarkable functional properties (chemical, optical, electronic, catalytic, etc.). Recent progress in the synthesis, manipulation and characterization of materials at the nanoscale open the way to new discoveries of functional materials and exploiting their unique properties in many innovative applications. Materials such as BiFeO3 (BFO) and Bi2(FeCr)O6 (BFCO) possess remarkable physical properties such as antiferromagnetic ordering and ferroelectricity even at room temperature. These physical properties may lead to unexpected behaviours, such as gigantic magnetoelectric and magnetocapacitance.

This project aims to exploit the properties of these novel materials in next-generation prototype applications and devices.
