Carbon quantum dots (CQDs) have attracted significant attentions due to their excellent optical properties, low toxicity, environmental friendliness, low cost and simple synthetic routes. The applications of CQDs are in the fields of chemical sensing, bio-sensing, bio-imaging, nanomedicine, photovoltaics and photocatalysis. In view of all these advantages of CQDs, my project focuses on synthesizing and exploring CQDs catalysis with controlled size/shape and subsequently modify their surface with functional groups to obtain a high efficient, cost-effective and possible long-term stable solar-driven water splitting system. Meanwhile, a novel heterostructured CoS or CoO counter electrode will be used as efficient electrode for replacing the Pt counter electrode.
